Annual Bus Evacuation Drills Teach Students Life-Saving Skills

Students from across the district participated in the annual bus evacuation drills this week, a crucial initiative designed to prepare them for emergencies. With guidance from drivers at Cyr Bus Lines, students learned essential procedures for safely exiting the bus and responding in a crisis.

During the drills, students practiced how to exit from both the front and back of the bus, what to do once outside, and the importance of remaining calm while listening for adult instructions. The exercises aim to instill confidence and readiness among the young participants.

“It was wonderful to watch our students take the drills seriously while showing care and support for one another,” said Fairmount Principal Jeanett Quirk. “I even attended the 'show' myself and was so proud to see their confidence grow as they learned these life-saving skills. Safety is a team effort, and we’re grateful to our drivers and staff for helping prepare our Falcons to travel safely every day.”

The Bangor School Department stresses the importance of continued conversations about bus safety within families. Parents and guardians are encouraged to discuss these key safety procedures with their children to reinforce what they learned during the drills.
